When looking for roommates

When looking for roommates

When you are determining that you need to have roommates in order to be able to continue your education at your chosen college or the university of course you will need to create a set of rules that will grant –at least as much as possible- the harmonic existence between all the people in the apartment or home.

However, before you decide what characteristics should your potential roommates have you will need to consider leasing an apartment or a house and to this end you will need to do the corresponding estimate when you apply for a student loan. Once this has been done you can guide your search for your ideal roommates; however, you need to consider what things are suitable for you and what things will not be.

As you interview or come in contact with your potential roommates a good idea is to ask each one of them what things will they tolerate and which things they will not tolerate. Try to be as broad in the topic browsing as possible; things like religion and lifestyle can be pretty prickly; especially when most of the nation is divided in terms of tolerating and accepting or not other religions such as the Islamic faith.

Of course, in terms of the lifestyle of your possible roommates you should avoid two major things:

• Drug users

You cannot control whether a person learns or acquires the addiction of substance abuse while already being your roommate, but if the apartment is leased under your name, you will have the responsibility to keep it drug free. Drug users generally will require to have drugs in the apartment or house; as a logical result, their suppliers will most likely come to their home to provide their clients. This is not a scenario that you want, regardless if it is just a cigarette of pot once in a while or an addiction of prescribed drugs.

It is important that you do not confuse people with health conditions such as migraine or epilepsy with drug users.

• Heavy drinkers

It is not a problem that your roommates drink heavily on occasion, however, you need to consider if you want them to have the strength of will to go to the toilet when they are feeling ill or if you actually do not care at all. If you are not sure if you care or not consider this, are you willing to clean their vomit or not?
