What Happens To Student Loan Money If You Withdraw From School?
When you are in school, you will be undergoing a lot of pressure and stress. Many times people decide that they are not going to be able to finish school, whether it is because of their grades, because of personal reasons, or simply because they feel that college is not for them. Either way, when a person decides that they do not want to go to school anymore, they withdraw from the school. At this time, the financial aid question is going to be big on your mind. What happens to your financial aid if you withdraw from school?
Well, first of all, any money that you have taken out previously, for semesters in the past, is still considered to be a loan that you have taken out. This means that the money you have taken out will need to be paid back by you, no matter if you finish school or not. Therefore, withdrawing from school will not cancel any student loan money that you might have out.
Next ,the current student loan that you have out will either be kept in your name and given to you, or will not be given at all to you, depending on when you withdraw from school. If you have no paid for your classes with your student loan money yet, and you decide to withdraw from school, the school will send your student loan money back to the government. The loan will not be given to you, and you will not need to pay it back. However, if you have already paid for your semester, and you decide to withdraw from school, there are several options. If you withdraw from school right as the semester starts, after you have paid but before the cut off date for your campus, the school will refund you the money that you have paid for the semester. However, if you have passed the refund date set up by your school, they will not give you any money and you will still have to pay that student loan back. Therefore, it is best to withdraw from school before you have paid for the semester. AT the very least, withdraw from school before your campus’s cut off date so that you can get a refund and at least have that money to work with after you are finished with school.
