When a student has a student loan, he or she is responsible that the money given to him or her either by his or her parents depositing it on a saving account or by the student loan company making the same deposit, might be the biggest amount of money he or she has ever had. Because of this, it can be very tempting to use it for additional things other than just school related expenses.
One of this “enticing things” is courtship. Wooing the opposite sex is one of the most imperative expenses that a young adult will have and one of the things that might cause him or her to misuse and misspend the student loan money that he or she has to pay for all school related expenses. Misusing the student loan money for other expenses such as wooing is a common practice between male students who, by social structure are the ones that are expected to pay for dating.
While this is understandable and to a point can be endearing, it is not adequate; mainly because the student applied for a student loan because his or her family had other monthly expenses that caused them to be unable to provide the financial resources that he or she required to continue his or her education.
The student’s parents need to make sure that their children understand that the student loan money is to be used solely for the purpose of paying school related expenses, not to be derived as a wooing financial funding. The best way to do this is to involve the student in the student loan application process and making him or her understand first hand what the process of application mean and the risk that application involve such as being denied the grant.
Yet, despite the parent’s best efforts, it is possible that they will fail in teaching and preventing their son to use the student loan money as a wooing fund and must consider and prevent the fact that this is a very feasible possibility. Nonetheless, using the student loan money as a wooing fund is not the worst possible choice that the student can make under these circumstances.
One additional danger is that his wooing process actually works but with the worst possible girl. Wooing and getting a vane or superficial girl as your son’s girlfriend can be as dangerous as any other vice he might be having.
