Personnel experiences -Student loan-

My best friend and I met in the university. Those were wholesome days of little to no worries. When we left graduate school and decided to continue our education, we faced, of course, the same things that all students face: How will I be able to get the finance for my education? Thankfully, I had no need for additional funding; my grandfather was graceful enough to provide me with a financing that required only my attention on the family business on weekends.

Since I was already planning on taking over the business when he retired, it seemed a logical choice. But my friend did not have such wonderful family and he had to seek additional funding on a private loan company. Indeed, he submitted the application and was granted the loan, but then his father got sick of cancer and died and he was left in charge of his whole house and unable to payback the loan.

Fortunately, despite his intentions, his father forced him to submit to a plan that stated that the loan would be given to my friend on monthly basis, so, when his father died his mother immediately contacted the private loan company and suspended the loan. This way my friend just had to pay a penalty fee and the remaining of the loan that he had already used; it took him about a year to be able to pay it all back.

Of course, he did not return to school, got a job and started the long run in the corporate ladder. As far as I can tell, he is doing fine and doing what he loves to do, but every now and then I know for sure that he wished he could have returned to school and finished the career. I keep on telling him that it is not too late and that he can request a student loan as an independent student, the first time I told him he looked at me as if I came from another planet. I laughed so hard.

I still believe that he can do it; I have told his wife that there is still a chance; I hope that he decides to take it since independent student loans are designed specially for cases like my friend and any others like him out there.

For me I still sometimes wonder what would have been if I had not had the support and assistance of my family; I guess I would be walking on my friend’s shoes.
